I can not believe that it has been a little bit more than one year since my first time at the clinic! My dad and I went back to California for my one year checkup in the beginning of march. My curve has improved so much in the past year, and I am so grateful for everyone in California, and for all my doctors. They are simply amazing and they have been so supportive. They actually said that my brace is the best one that they have ever seen. That’s how amazing it is! I am not going to need back surgery, and I am so grateful for that. My biggest curve went from 43 degrees down to 17! That is unheard of. Anyways, just wanted to thank the people at the clinic for their amazing hardwork and dedication.
What is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis. Hmm…Scoliosis is a very weird sounding word isn’t it? Well, I can’t blame you if you haven’t heard of it before. I didn’t even know what it was until I was diagnosed with it. So, I am here to inform you what it is.
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. Basically that means there is a curve in your spine in an S or C shape. It can be caused by a few different things. You can be born with it, or you can develop it as you grow. It is 8 times more likely in girls than in boys.
The type that I have developed as I grew. I had a major growth spurt, and my spinal cord didn’t grow as fast as my actual spine. This resulted in my spine curving so that the spinal cord doesn’t tear or tug on my brain.
